Holman KJV Creedal Bible- A Review

book review, Bible, Holman publisher, bible study, bh blogger

Any time I get a new Bible, it usually symbolizes a new season in my walk with the Lord.
This particular one, the Holman KJV Creedal Bible, was sent to me for free as part of a bloggers program* I am a member of so I sense the Lord hinting to the changing of seasons as I open this one that I didn’t even have to purchase myself.

The aesthetics of this Bible is what captured my attention right when I pulled it from the box! There is a beautifully embossed design on the cover and the words “Holy Bible” written in the middle. This is the first Bible that I have owned (my 4th one since becoming saved in 2002) that had those two words stamped clearly on the front for all to see! Although it is made of a faux leather, I truly do enjoy the way it feels in my hands and when you open it, the binding causes it to stay open fairly well without having to crease the binding too much, which is something that is rare for a new Bible that has not had much use just yet.

I enjoyed reading through the explanations of the creeds and information on Christianity and the Bible itself, written by Tom J. Nettles. I am not too much of a history buff, but I am sure those who are, will enjoy this section of the Bible, which is found in the very front before Genesis.

The text size was perfect for my eyes, not too small and not too big! Instead of subtitles in between chapters, the subtitles are turned headings at the top of each page to help you get a better understanding of what is going on in that particular passage. There are also cross reference scriptures placed at the end of verses instead of the use of foot notes or center columns listing that information. For me, I am more likely to look at the cross references because it is so much easier for me to relate the two verses and my eyes do not have to do much searching.

After the book of Revelation, you will find some more great resources such as Bible Studying tips, a short history of the Bible, favorite readings and stories, a timeline of the life of Jesus with scripture references, a concordance, and of course wonderfully colorful maps that assist in revealing more to us of the Bible stories found in the Old Testament and New Testament.

All in all, I haven’t been able to use this Bible very much since receiving it a few weeks ago, but I am excited to see what the Holy Spirit continues to reveal to me in this new season of my life with a new Bible in hand!

2016 marks eight years that I started studying God’s Word. The number 8 signifies a new beginning. I just love “God winks!”

Here’s to a new Bible and new beginnings!
